Building your site. Now that you have a domain name and a hosting plan the next thing you need to do is decide what kind of site you want it to be, personal, artistic, fictional literature, business, etc… or a combination of everything... You can have graphics, fiction, sell stuff, links to your favorite site (like this one.. hint, hint) , or anything your little heart desires! A simple site that focuses on YOUR area of expertise is the best place to begin. Be as creative as you can. Try to make sure the site as cool as you can, something that you would enjoy if you can across it while surfing. The more unique the graphics and content is, the better. Enhancing your
vision.... If you are an artist you can post your artwork. If you are an artist you can post your writing. If you want to spice up your site there are plenty of sites that offer free artwork that you can use. Do not take artwork from other peoples website without asking permission and giving them credit, it is stealing and illegal and will give you a bad name so steer clear of this. Affiliate programs will also avoid you if you have stolen material on your site. If you consider yourself an interesting person take some pictures of yourself and keep an online diary. Try to be as creative as you can. Do not just put family pictures of you and Aunt Bertha, get dressed up put on some make up and run out to your favorite graveyard or something, make it interesting for someone that does not know you and give them a reason for visiting your site. If you like horror movies write about them, if you like music you can start a fan site about your favorite bands. Stick with what you know and have fun with it.. Another good idea is to cruise the chat lines and ask around for aspiring artists or writers, you would be surprised how many people there are out there that would be honored to get there stuff posted on a site and do not have one themselves. Also if you are
a writer or an artist of 'original' works and do not what to go through
the pain and expence of building your own site and still desire a web
presence drop me a line with an example of your work and I will consider
giving you an area on my site here on DagonBytes.com, but remember I
am particular about what I put on my site.. If you want an art gallery on your site and you are not an artist and you do not know any artists you can join an affiliate program with a poster or art site that sells artwork and make your gallery that way and people can even buy the prints they like and you can make some money at it and offer a service making your site that much more valuable.. I will be adding some advanced tips to this area soon.. |
