1. First you need
a domain name and a hosting plan
A domain name is
what you type into the address bar to get to the site, i.e. www.dagonbytes.com.
Hosting is what
you need to have a place to put what will appear on the site i.e. the
pages and graphics that comprise your website.
Domain names
You can get a domain name for free but it will generally be a bit longer
and less customizable this way. For a small yearly price you can get
your own and it can be whatever you choose it to be as long as it is
not already taken.
Hosting plans
You can get free hosting but then your site will either have banner
ads on the top of all your pages or pop up windows. If you have to have
a free host I prefer the hosting plans with banner ads to the pop up
windows. Banner ads are a banner at the top of each page that usually
advertises the hosting company that you are using, pop up windows causes
big advertising windows to pop up every time you click on a link. They
are obnoxious and cause your pages to load slower. I hate pop up windows
with a passion and so does everyone else. When I get to a site that
has pop up windows I leave as soon as possible.

If you can afford just a few buck I strongly recommend
getting your own domain and hosting with no banners..

leading but a great deal none the less. you get your own Domain name
for free (www.your name.com) and web hosting for a year for free (no
banners or pop up banners) for a one time set up fee of $49.95

This is the easiest
cheapest way to build a professional store that accept credit cards
on line. Anyone can build a store with this package it takes absolutly
no web knowledge or skill. $19.95 a month with no set up fee.
Free Domain

If you do not have a penny
to spend this is the way to go if you want a website.

If you want to
get started without spending a dime this is the place to go. You can
get a free domain name (www.yourname.netfirms.com) and you can get free
hosting although it does have banner ads you can always upgrade later
if you want to get rid of the banners.
(unlike free hosters like geocities where you will always have the banners
like it or not, unless you change the adress which is a pain in the
ass after you promo your site)
